Saint Michael's College Rugby
Women's Rugby
Rugby at Saint Michael’s has a rich tradition of having great athletes that are pushed every season to be the best that they can be both physically and mentally. In a world when women are told to be delicate, we emphasize the power and strength. We teach the basics of the game, while helping the players foster their leadership skills. The team is a family both on and off the pitch.
Conference
Saint Michael’s plays in Rugby Northeast, the first Division II collegiate rugby conference in the United States. It serves small schools in New England who play NCAA competition in the Northeast-10. The goal of this conference is to create stronger programs through traditional college rivalries and heightened awareness on campuses. The inaugural competition was held in the Fall of 2011, with sevens in the spring.
The Purple Knights were Conference Champions in 2012, 2015, 2016 and were Pilgrim Bowl Champs in 2017.
Training
Our fitness program is based upon the Crossfit concept. We vary our workouts to improve speed, core stability, muscle strength and endurance. Athletes track their workouts, watch their max weight loads increase, and see their sprint times decrease. Olympic lifting is a vital part of our fitness program. All of these skills help us to be better players along with limiting the amount of injuries our players may see.
